HIKING THE RIM OF THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY:
FIVE MOUNTAIN RANGES IN TWELVE DAYS
Gene and Sue Fritsche and Colleagues Will Complete
This Hike as a Fund-Raising Project in Support of
The total length of the GeoTrek is about 135 MILES and it will be completed over a 12-day period. After each hiking day a rest day will be taken during which pictures and a description of the previous day's hike will be posted on the hike-day links shown below so that you can keep track of the progress.
Church camp experiences for our youth are expensive and many of our families do not have sufficient funds to send their children to one of our camps. Your donations in this regard will help make it possible for more of our youth to receive a camp experience. In addition, many people in our own neighborhood find themselves jobless and without enough money to feed themselves and their families properly. Your donations to our food pantry will help alleviate this situation to some extent. If you wish to encourage Gene and Sue along on the hike by making a contribution to either youth camp scholarships and/or the food pantry, please sign Sue's pledge sheet when you see her at church or e-mail your pledge of support to Sue Fritsche at: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu . This event occurs only once every two years, so since Sue and Gene won't be pestering you for contributions next year, you can afford to be extra generous this year. You may pay your pledge at any time, but if you have not paid by the end of the GeoTrek, Sue will contact you for your contribution. Checks should be made out to: FUMC Reseda, with "Youth Camp Scholarships" or "Food Pantry" on the memo line. Also encourage your employer to support one of these funds, especially if they provide matching funds.
Also, you are encouraged to COME JOIN THE FUN WITH GENE AND SUE on any of the GeoTrek segments that you might choose. Three of the GeoTrek segments have been scheduled for Saturdays and one is on Memorial Day (May 26) to encourage your participation, although you are welcome to come along on any of the days. Each of the GeoTrek segments is described below. If you plan on attending any of the parts of the GeoTrek, please e-mail your intentions to: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu so that he can ensure sufficient room in the shuttle vehicle for return to the cars parked at the beginning of the day's hike. If you plan on hiking on Saturday, May 31, or Monday, June 2, you must notify Gene by May 15 because we will be passing through private property on those two days and permission for all participants must be obtained in advance.
